José Magro

José Magro works as a director and has won two best picture awards with José Combustion of Pigs and The Journey, his first fiction short films. His films have screened in film festivals in Portugal, Ireland, France, Switzerland, Finland and China.
He has also worked as director of photography with the awarded directors João Pedro Rodrigues, and João Rui Guerra da Mata; producer for Miguel Gonçalves Mendes, and Jorge Pelicano’s last films; screenwriter for the Mozambican director Sol de Carvalho; and has been second assistant director of Manoel de Oliveira.
Letters from Childhood, produced in 2018 and directed by José Magro, had its world premiere at Tampere International Film Festival, Finland. A River Through the Mountains, his last short film, shot in Hancheng, China, will now begin its distribution.
